In contrast to the common practice of foreign corporations acquiring natural resources from local communities at undervalued rates, only to provide basic, low-paying, and unskilled jobs without prospects for career development, we strive to empower these communities. Our approach involves collaborating with multinational institutions, individual professional investors, Family Offices, and other investment managers, offering them access to capital while promoting sustainable and socially responsible practices.
About Us
Chelsea Metals was established as a channel to offer bridging finance to the gold streaming industry, focusing on funding the exploration and extraction of gold from small-scale artisanal mines globally. The extracted gold, in its raw form known as dore, typically consists of about 94% gold, equivalent to approximately 22 karats. Local government-approved specialists assay the gold in its country of origin, ensuring quality verification.
Following the assay process, licensed partners acquire the gold, and export duties, ranging from 5% to 15% of the gold’s value, are paid to the respective governments before the gold can be exported. Secured and armored logistical couriers transport the gold to regulated refineries globally. At these refineries, the gold undergoes purification until it reaches the highest quality—999.9 fine gold (24 karats). Subsequently, it can be sold on international bullion markets, meeting the constant demand.
Chelsea Metals has exclusive purchase agreements with these refineries to acquire 100% of the imported gold. Once the refining process concludes, the cycle restarts with the funding of more gold from artisanal mines.
Given the substantial global demand for gold surpassing the available supply, Chelsea Metals is confident in the sale of every ounce of gold supplied to the refineries. The artisanal mines Chelsea Metals collaborates with have the capacity to provide approximately 500kg of gold per month. Currently valued at around $60,000 per kilo, these miners collectively supply about $26 million worth of gold monthly.
Operating on a cooperative basis with local communities, these miners retain ownership of their resources. This ensures that the generated revenue remains within the local communities, fostering infrastructural development, rather than being sent abroad to foreign-owned corporations primarily focused on their profits.
